Frequently asked questions
What is EDT and why do I need it?
EDT stands for Essential Driver Training, a course for learner drivers with permits for category B vehicles, such as cars and light vans. EDT will help you learn some of the most vital driving skills as well as improve your knowledge and understanding of road safety.
It focuses on learning the skills, understanding and behaviours you will need to deal with the hazards you will face when driving. This will make a big difference to road safety.
You must complete the EDT course before you can take your driving test.
Do EDT lessons expire?
There is no need to retake the EDT, with the exception being if the learner permit has lapsed for more than 5 years.
Are the lessons one-on-one or do they involve other students?
The lessons are one-to-one, meaning that only the instructor and the student are allowed in the car during the lesson. There are no other students present. The individualized attention allows for a more focused and tailored learning experience.
Can I bring a family member or friend along for the lessons as a passenger?
No, it is not possible to bring along a family member or friend as a passenger during the lessons. The lessons are designed to be one-on-one between the instructor and the student, for safety and educational purposes.

I provide manual lessons with dual controls in my car. I do not have an automatic car at the moment. However, I can provide driving lessons in your own automatic car.
Are your cars dual-controlled?
Yes, my cars are equipped with dual-controls. This means that I have both a driver’s seat and a passenger’s seat, each with its own set of controls. This is a standard safety feature in driving instructor vehicles, ensuring that the instructor has the ability to take control of the car if necessary during the lesson.
